Lord-Lieutenant for South Yorkshire Cadet

Citation

Leading Cadet Kira Markham has been a member of the Rotherham Sea Cadets for 3 years. She is a courteous and most helpful cadet who is a leading light in the Unit and District. Smart and of good bearing, she is an example to the younger cadets, and indeed her peers; she is open minded and always sees the best in people. As the Squadron Commander of the Colour Party she represents and leads her Unit at the National Sea Cadet Colour Competition.

In the community Kira regularly participates in sponsored swims for local charities and also helps in fund raising for her unit by bag packing at local supermarkets. She is hoping to qualify as a Pulling Instructor and later this year to gain her promotion to Cadet Petty Officer. In the meantime she continues to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, having already attained Bronze.

A pupil at Thomas Rotherham College where she is studying Spanish, Business Studies, Travel and Tourism to A Level standards, Kira hopes to attend Sheffield University to undertake a degree in Management in Tourism.

A Lord-Lieutenant's Certificate is an award of high merit of which a recipient may be justly proud.
It is awarded to a member of the Cadet Force who is considered to have given exceptional service
beyond the normal call of duty.
It is intended to supplement Honours bestowed by HM The Queen in the New Year and Birthday Honours Lists.

The Certificate is in the form of a mounted scroll signed by the Lord-Lieutenant of the County and is generally presented by the Lord-Lieutenant at a ceremony hosted by a local unit.
