West Yorkshire Cadet Volunteers Honoured by Lord-Lieutenant

20 Feb

Five adult volunteers in the Cadets have been awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate – an achievement recognised as one of the highest honours in the forces, ranking alongside the MBE.

The certificates were presented to Barry Young, 49, from the Sea Cadet Corps, Austin Butler, 48, and Darren Foulds, 38, both from the Army Cadet Force, and Ian Johnson, 59, and Paul Gillings, 60, both from the Air Cadets Organisation.

Dr Ingrid Roscoe, the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, presented each certificate at a private ceremony held at Thornbury Barracks in Pudsey on 15th February, in recognition of their outstanding contribution and dedication to the cadet organisation.

Colonel Snagge, Chief Executive of the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA) in Yorkshire and The Humber, added: “We have so many committed men and women in Yorkshire who give up their time outside working hours to provide support for the cadet organisations.  I am delighted that the service of these five volunteers has been commemorated in this way and I have no doubt they will continue to make a great difference to the cadet organisation.”

Colonel Snagge also appealed for more adult volunteers to support the region’s 5,400 cadets: “The cadet movement is one of the most prestigious youth organisations in the world, and its popularity means we need more adult instructors to lead the cadets and deliver the quality of experiences, adventure and community projects which our cadets enjoy.  We would love to hear from people who are willing to offer their time and enthusiasm to join our ranks as an Adult Instructor – no military experience is needed.”

The Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate is presented as a mounted scroll.
