Ex EXECUTIVE STRETCH is designed to provide a unique opportunity to let civilian middle managers learn from some of these techniques through participation in a military based leadership training exercise. It is organised by the Reserve Forces and SaBRE (the campaign set up by the MoD to support employers of Reservists and encourage stronger links with them). The Reservists themselves run the event.
These events are held throughout the country, with each region usually hosting one each year.
It is designed to be fun yet demanding, but above all, is designed to give the participants an experience that will be both motivational and invaluable. The programme involves a variety of stimulating leadership and teamwork challenges, both physical and mental. These reflect very closely the training that Reservists themselves receive and provides a valuable insight into what being a Reservist involves.
By the end of the exercise the participants feel thoroughly stretched, but feel they have had a real sense of personal achievement and development. They go back to their everyday lives stronger and more capable for what they have been through as well as putting into practice the skills they have acquired from the Exercise.
This year, the RFCAs from both Yorkshire and The Humber and North of England, together with 15 (North East) Brigade, held their exercise at Wathgill Camp, near Catterick in North Yorkshire. The event ran from Thursday afternoon until mid-day Saturday, 18th to 20th June 2009, for 86 participants and was organised by 150 (Yorkshire) Transport Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers).
