The Yorkshire Universities Royal Navy Unit is based in Hull and is one of 14 such around the country. Shore training is at Navy House in Hull with sea training onboard our Fast Patrol Boat, HMS EXPLORER.

Students get the opportunity to spend weekends at sea and a 2-week Spring or Summer deployment abroad. Recent trips have included Norway, the Baltic, France, Spain and Russia.

Drill nights are held on Thursday evenings with all travelling expenses met by the Unit. After 3 years most students are awarded the RYA Coastal Powerboat Skipper's ticket as well as a recognised First Aid Qualification. Average pay is £1,500 p.a. and there is an active sporting and social programme.

There is no obligation to join the Royal Navy, but those who do have an excellent chance of being selected for fast track training at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.
