299 Parachute Squadron was reformed in Wakefield, West Yorkshire in June 2006 (with Troops in Pontefract and Hull) and is the only Engineer Squadron with a parachute role within the Territorial Army. The Squadron has been formed as part of the British Army’s restructuring which places a greater emphasis on rapid mobility.

In the Future the Army will be able to react faster,
reach further and hit harder than ever before.

As part of this, 299 Para Sqn RE (V) will provide Close Engineer Support to 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault), the dedicated Regular Army Engineer unit of 16 Air Assault Brigade. In order to carry out this highly specialist role, the Squadron trains to work alongside the Regular Army, to the same high standards, using the same equipment.

The Squadron needs well trained, physically and mentally robust soldiers. The Squadron carries out a wide range of challenging military and adventurous training. This training includes weapons training, fieldcraft, military engineering, mountaineering, adventure racing and freefall parachuting.

The training also includes the famous parachute forces selection course “Pegasus Company” (P Coy) and qualifies squadron personnel to wear the coveted Para wings and maroon beret of British Airborne forces.

Because the Squadron has Troop locations in Wakefield, Hull and Pontefract, we are recruit over a much wider geographic area than other Territorial Army units.
