Mirfield air cadets flying experience

24.05.2019

CADET Oscar Clayton was among eight air cadets who experienced a day of flying.

The cadets, all from 868 (Mirfield) Squadron, joined instructors at a flying training session at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. They all got to go up in a Grob Tutor where the instructor let them take control of the aircraft.

Oscar, aged 14, was among them, he said: “Flying the plane was great fun but nerve-wracking. I really enjoyed the aerobatics and can’t wait to try them for myself when I’m qualified.”

The cadets are all working towards their blue and bronze aviation wings, which they hope to complete later in the year.

In other news five Mirfield cadets have just completed leadership training, earning themselves a silver leadership badge.

Congratulations to Mirfield cadet Jonathan Barrett who beat off stiff nationwide competition to win the Cubby Sword for ‘Best Candidate’ on the air cadet leadership courses in 2018.

Jonathan received his award at the National Air Cadet Awards in College Hall Officers’ Mess, RAF College Cranwell.
