Air cadet first in squadron to earn Civilian Pilot Wings badge

AN air cadet has received special recognition by becoming the first in her squadron to earn the Civilian Pilot Wings Badge, meaning she can fly a glider solo.

Corporal Phoebe Buckley, 14, who has only been a cadet for two years earned the badge after a year’s worth of training.

Phoebe, who attends South Hunsley School, said “I’ve loved the idea of being a pilot for as long as I know. It was my mum that got me interested in gliding. She took me to the local club in Pocklington for my first flight at the age of 12 and I was hooked from that moment.”

Civilian Instructor Viv Blackledge commented “Phoebe is an outstanding cadet, very motivated and engaged in all activities. She is the only cadet in staff memory to achieve this award and we are so proud of her achievement”.

Phoebe was presented with the badge on a parade night with her fellow cadets at 1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadron in Brough.

1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadron Air Cadets meet at Skillings Lane, Brough, East Yorkshire, HU15 1BA.
