The Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association (RFCA) in Yorkshire & The Humber is an independent, community-based organisation with the responsibility of advising and assisting the Defence Council on issues concerning the 3,000 reservists and more than 8,500 cadets in the region.

Estate Surveyor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estate Surveyor with the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Yorkshire and The Humber, an organisation that supports the reserve forces and cadets in the Yorkshire and Humber area.

This is a key position in the Estates Team with senior management support.  As a minimum applicants must be educated to HND in a building surveying or construction related discipline.  Alternatively membership of the Institute of Clerk of Works or Institute of Maintenance and Building Management would also be acceptable.  Membership of RICS or CIOB is preferable or working towards one of these.  You will be responsible for:

  • Routine and reactive maintenance on allocated sites.
  • Project management of Capital works from design to completion.
  • Private residential dwelling adaptations.
  • Management, maintenance and scrutiny of contractors.
  • Management of delegated budgets.
  • Management of department website and CRM database.

As part of a small professional team, the post holder must be self- motivated, highly organised and able to identify and prioritise targets.  Strong IT skills, especially familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

The position is a C2 Grade Crown Servant post based in York and attracts a starting salary of £31,136. Working hours are 37 hours per week but some flexibility may be required.  Additional benefits include 25 days annual leave (excluding public holidays) rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service.  The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Council of RFCAs Pension Scheme. The appointment is for a probationary period of six months in the first instance.

You should hold a full clean driving licence.  An amount of travel is involved with this role, therefore candidates must be prepared to travel and on the odd occasion spend nights away from home for which reasonable expenses are reimbursed.  An Association vehicle is provided.
