The Army Cadet Force (ACF) offers young people so many different opportunities and experiences, which was especially so for Cadet Company Sergeant Major (CSM) Samuel Curtis from C Company, Humberside & South Yorkshire ACF.
Samuel was recently appointed Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Cadet of South Yorkshire, meaning that he assists the Lord-Lieutenant in the execution of his duties throughout the one year appointment.
And on 14 November, in his position as Lord-Lieutenants Cadet, CSM Curtis accompanied the Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Andrew Coombe, to greet The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they made a visit to Barnsley.
The Duke and Duchess were there to officially open the new Centre Point UK Andy Norman Learning Hub, which will provide a dedicated space and resource for young people at risk of homelessness in Barnsley, helping improve their skills and work towards independence.
CSM Curtis said: ‘As the Lord-Lieutenants Cadet I was asked to give the Salute as the Duke & Duchess arrived and again as they left for The Duke of Wales 70th Birthday celebrations.
“It was an honour to not only represent the Lord-Lieutenant but also Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF too. Prince William, came over to me and thanked me personally. It’s definitely been a highlight of my cadet career so far.’
