Scarborough cadets turn to technology to keep activities going

Cadet units across Yorkshire and the Humber have been stood down for the duration of the COVID-19 response.

However, some units are turning to technology to find innovative new ways of continuing to engage with cadets.

Scarborough’s Royal Marine Cadets are using their closed Facebook page to hold ‘virtual drill nights’.

“Every Tuesday and Friday evening at 7pm sharp we post a new task on our private Facebook group page,” said detachment commander Mary Atkins-Johnson.

“The cadets send their work in via Facebook and we can all see each other’s efforts and have an online chat about it.

“It’s a fantastic way of keeping our the unit together in spirit if not in person and I think the parents value their children having a bit of their old routine.”

The latest challenge for the cadets was to do a story board about the history of the Royal Marines.

“I love being part of the unit and this is a way of keeping in touch with my friends,” said cadet Lewis, pictured with his work.
