Air cadet reaches new heights

19.03.2019

CADET Michael Swales has been promoted to the highest rank possible in the Air Training Corps.

Michael, aged 18, has been in the air cadets since the age of 13 and has risen up the ranks to become Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO), the highest rank a cadet can achieve.

Michael, who currently studies at Caedmon College in Whitby, said: “Being promoted to this rank is by far one of my greatest achievements as an air cadet. I would like to support those around me to achieve great things by sharing my own experiences”.

Michael was promoted by his Wing Officer Commanding after being interviewed by a specially selected panel about his cadet career, future aspirations and what value and skills he would bring.

Every CWO is expected to set a high standard of personal behaviour and appearance, they also share the responsibility of teaching junior cadets and providing assistance to Wing Headquarters as and when required.

Upon leaving college and the air cadets Michael hopes to become a cadet force adult volunteer in his spare time and pursue a career in the Aerospace Engineering Industry as an Engineer Officer.
