Over 55 employers from the region were on location at Askham Bryan College on Saturday 10 February 2024 for the second Annual Cadet Apprenticeship and Careers Fair. The event rounded off the weeklong national celebration of Apprenticeship Week. Cadets from Yorkshire and the Humber explored work experience opportunities and career pathways from the exhibiting businesses and organisations. Simon Banks-Cooper, Honorary Colonel of Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF, and staff from the RFCA for Yorkshire and the Humber organised the event.
Cadets are work-ready
Simon Banks-Cooper, Honorary Colonel of Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF, who created the idea of a regional Cadet Apprenticeship and Careers Fair, says:
“This year’s careers event, the second following the success of last year’s inaugural event, has returned after popular demand. It was bigger and better with over 55 employers exhibiting on the day, all of whom wanted to engage directly with uniformed cadets.
“These employers recognise the value of the cadet experience and what cadets can bring to their organisations. This includes obvious skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership, and personal attributes such as enhanced resilience, a strong sense of accountability, self-confidence and admirable respect for others. I look forward to bringing both cadets and employers together at the event and welcoming the many opportunities it will offer them.”
Employers are welcomed to learn more
Employers who are interested in learning more about the cadet experience, whether it is understanding how skills are learnt through cadet activities or the opportunity to explore opportunities as a forces-friendly employer, an event will be held at the Cadet Training Centre in Driffield 8 August 2024. More details to come. For more information about exhibiting at a future cadet/employer event, email RFCA Regional Employer Engagement Director Pauline King at [email protected].
