Activities and exercises put reservists to the test
Fifty reservists from 150 Regiment successfully participated in Adventurous Training in the Lake District, providing a high-quality and engaging experience towards their training. The training challenged individuals through participation in physically and mentally demanding activities of their choosing using the ALeRT (Adventurous Training) methodology of training aimed at enhancing personal fitness and teamwork, while also inspiring personnel to pursue future roles as adventurous training instructors. The programme maximised delivery of training value, enjoyment and developmental outcomes.
Sport such as mountain biking on the terrain of Grizedale Forest and mountaineering on the Old Man of Coniston were offered and delivered by highly proficient instructors in an appropriately challenging environment. The conditions required robust endurance and navigation discipline, including detailed map reading, pacing, and effective route selection.
Additionally, as part of the training programme, the Regiment also demonstrated strong community social engagement by organising a D-Day Anniversary evening commemoration service with the local community of Halton,. Personnel paid tribute to the 141 members of the village who lost their lives during WW1, reinforcing the Army Reserve’s connection to heritage and community. The weekend concluded with a visit to Lancaster Castle, providing further educational and cultural benefit.
Experiences like this represent an effective delivery of Adventurous Training, showcasing the value of Army Reserve service while enhancing cohesion, resilience, and collective ethos.

Reserves are twice the citizen
The Reserve Forces make up approximately one sixth of our Armed Forces and play a vital role in protecting the UK at home and overseas, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber. Reserves balance civilian life with a military career and serve a committed number of days to the forces. In addition to military duties, reservists are offered opportunities to strengthen their skills through adventurous exercises, winter or summer sport and endurance training in the UK and aboard.
