Some 28 forces-friendly employers from across Yorkshire and the Humber are in the running to get top awards under the Government’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
The organisations have submitted applications to be considered for either a Silver or Gold Award in recognition of the support they give to staff who are veterans, serve as reserves within the Armed Forces or are adult volunteers within the cadets.
Next step
“We work with organisations across the region who want to develop their policies and practices in a way that supports the Armed Forces,” said RFCA employer engagement director Richard Lenton.
“As a result, we couldn’t be more delighted that so many forces-friendly employers have felt they are ready to take the next step by applying for their efforts to be recognised at national level this year.
“The results will be announced in July and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for all employers from the region who have submitted applications.”
Ceremonies
As well as the eight organisations that have applied to become first-time winners of a Gold Award and 21 of a Silver Award, a further 11 applied for existing awards to be revalidated – one for Gold and ten for Silver Awards.
Last year eight employers from the region were presented with Gold Awards at a special ceremony attended by ministers and senior military figures at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. More than 20 were presented with Silver Awards at a separate ceremony in York.
