Over 100 Forces-friendly employers from across Yorkshire and the Humber gathered at a networking and best practice event last night at the Royal Armouries in Leeds to expand support for the Armed Forces community in the workplace. Organised to highlight the business benefits of being a forces-friendly employer, the event brought together HR professionals, business leaders, and organisations already signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant or joining the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme as well as businesses interested in learning about the Covenant and Scheme. Attendees explored the tangible advantages of employing and supporting Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, veterans and the families of serving personnel.

Sharing good practice
The event featured speakers who opened discussions on implementing effective HR policies. Topics included flexible working arrangements for Reservists, supporting veterans’ transition into civilian roles, policies that accommodate Cadet Force commitments and creating inclusive environments for military families. Delegates had the opportunity to share successes and discover how supportive policies can enhance recruitment, retention, employee engagement and organisational resilience.

Linking Defence with Society
Phil Walton, Head of Engagement, Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Yorkshire and the Humber says:
“Employers who actively support the Armed Forces community gain access to highly skilled, disciplined and resilient individuals who bring unique strengths to their teams.
