As the RFCA gets set for a fortnight of events to honour the region’s most forces-friendly organisations, a leading reserve soldier has explained why good employers make all the difference to reserve forces.
Colonel Lisa Brooks, deputy commander (reserves) HQ 4 Brigade said: “A good employer makes a huge difference to a reservist because it means the reserve knows they have the employer’s support.
“And that is probably because the employer understands all the advantages they get from their employee being in the reserve – with skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork and an individual that will perform well under pressure.
“I would like to thank all employers of reserves, cadet force adult volunteers and veterans for the support they give. Because we couldn’t do what we do without them.”
The RFCA is hosting three events to honour the best military employers and organisations in the region. The first event is for winners of the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Awards 2020 who missed out on a special ceremony last year due to Covid restrictions. They have been invited as honoured guests at the traditional Royal Gun Salute in York today.
On Thursday, winners of the Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Awards 2021 will be presented with their certificates at a ceremony attended by all four of the regions Lord-Lieutenants. The following Thursday, winners of the highest level award under the Employer Recognition Scheme, the Gold Award, will be presented with their certificates at a ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
