Meet Alex Lenton who by day works for Longs Haulage and in his spare time, serves the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Scunthorpe as a reservist.
He says, “I’ve been a reservist for over 10 years now, and the skills I’ve gained from being in the Army Reserves has definitely given me a lot more confidence in not only myself and but being a team leader as well.”

Steph Boycott, HR Director, Longs Haulage adds, “It’s important to be a forces-friendly employer because it shows that understanding and commitment to the Reservist but also from an employer point of view, you’re attracting skilled workers; these Reservists are given a lot of training to fulfil the duties which are transferable to us as an employer. They’re hardworking, they’re reliable, they’re organised, they’re resilient, the job is always completed to the best of their abilities. They’re professional and great ambassadors for the company also great at training new staff which we do tap into as well.”
Alex’s professional experience and military training have enabled him to develop the transferable skills that employers look for in the workforce. His expertise in transport and confidence in vehicular knowledge allows for a seamless transition from workplace to the forces.
