“I’m a Hull City councillor in my civilian work and I’m also the current Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull. I’m also a reservist with the The Royal Yorkshire Regiment.
“Being a reservist is important to me and I’ve been doing this now for almost 40 years.
“I’ve got many many benefits from being a reserve, it fits around my work, my family and all the commitments that I have. I think anybody can do it, there’s many different people being reservists from many walks of life and I think it’s an opportunity that can be grasped fully. The more that you actually put in to being a reservist, the more you can get out of it.
Transferable skills
“The skills I get from the reserves are transferable into civilian life and the skills I get from civilian life are also transferable into the military. Leadership and communication skills, being able to talk to people and treat people correctly.
If you’re thinking about joining the reserves and you wonder if it’s right for you please do try it.”
