“I’ve been a reservist for six years, when I joined the reserves I was a retail manager. I didn’t start driving until I was 35, now I have every licence except for motorbike and I’m a crane operator as well – all qualifications gained in the reserves.
“I’m now working as a civilian at RAF Leeming something I’d never thought I’d do after 30 years in retail. I got promoted to corporal in October which has opened up some new challenges.
Amazing opportunities
“I’ve had some amazing opportunities in the reserves and to be honest I wish I’d done it sooner. To anyone who’s thinking about joining, take the plunge. You do it on your terms and they are so supportive, you’d be amazed what you can get out of it and what you can give.”
