Cadets from Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force and 152 (City of Hull) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, who received the Freedom of the City for Kingston Upon Hull earlier this month, exercised their bestowed honour in a parade on Sunday 14th April 2024.
They marched with reservists from 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment (4 R YORKS), 150 Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps, and the Defence School of Transport. They were led by The Band of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment.
The event was attended by the Lord-Lieutenant of The East Riding of Yorkshire, Mr Jim Dick OBE who was also Inspecting Officer.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Kalvin Neal who is also a sergeant with 4 R YORKS, said: “Taking the salute is such an honour. Hearing the band and seeing the colours flying whilst the troops are marching past makes for a truly spectacular event.
“This Freedom Parade is slightly different. We have invited all those with the Freedom of the City to march together, where previously they have done this individually.”
It had been over five years since Hull last had a Freedom of The City Parade.
Receiving the Freedom of the City is the highest civic honour that can be awarded to an individual or organisation. It is awarded by councillors on behalf of the city in recognition of immense pride or of expressing gratitude for exemplary service.
