FOURTEEN of the North’s top forces-friendly employers were honoured by the military at the Royal Gun Salute in York.
The organisations came from across Yorkshire, Humber and the North East of England and representatives from each were presented with prestigious Gold Awards under the Government’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme for their outstanding support they give the Armed Forces Community.
As part of the event, the employers were guests of honour at the first Royal Gun Salute staged to mark King Charles’ birthday. After the spectacle of the Gun Salute, the guests gathered for an award ceremony attended by five of the region’s Lord-Lieutenants and senior military figures.
Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs Jo Ropner, was joined by Chief of Defence People Lieutenant General James Swift, to present the awards at the event organised by the RFCA for Yorkshire and the Humber and North of England RFCA.
General Swift said:
“I am honoured to be able to thank and to present these prestigious Gold Awards to employers who have shown genuine commitment and determination to support our Armed Forces community.
“Brilliant employers make a massive difference to our Reserve Forces, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers as well as veterans and Service families. They take the time to understand the particular skills they have to offer and, where needed, give them they support they need to train and deploy.
“The role of reservists in the Armed Forces has never been more important and just as we rightly acknowledge the contribution of those who serve, it is right that we acknowledge the contribution of their employers too.
“That’s what we are here to do today and I want all of these winning organisations to know the deep appreciation all of us in the military feel for everything they do in support.”
