Grand Reopening Celebrates New Hub in the Community
The Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Yorkshire and the Humber (RFCA YH) held the grand opening of the new Joint Cadet Centre in Immingham, bringing together sea cadets, army cadets, and air cadets under one roof to enhance their training and community engagement. The site of the Joint Cadet Centre is the former Immingham Police Station which has been renovated into a revitalised centre, marking a significant milestone for the cadet forces in Yorkshire and the Humber. The grand opening event was attended by Toby Dennis, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Colonel David Fuller OBE MNM DL, Chair of RFCA YH and Immingham cadets, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and local leaders.
Transformation from police station to cadet centre
The refurbished centre, previously a disused police station, has undergone a comprehensive transformation by O&P Construction of Rotherham, creating a modern hub designed to elevate the cadet experience. The facility now features advanced training spaces, including a bespoke classroom, modernised amenities, and an outdoor training area, ensuring cadets have access to cutting-edge resources to develop leadership, teamwork, and resilience skills. This consolidation of cadet forces into a single location will significantly improve opportunities for young people in Immingham.

Connecting a community
Lieutenant Mark Flodman, Sea Cadet Corps and Commanding Officer, Immingham Sea Cadets said “We are absolutely delighted to be part of the launch of the new Joint Cadet Centre in Immingham. The transformation of a once-disused building into a vibrant and modern hub for young people is a fantastic achievement and a testament to what can be accomplished through community collaboration and support.
For the Sea Cadets, this new facility is more than just a building—it’s a space where young people can gain confidence, learn new skills, and build lasting friendships. It also provides a vital base for our dedicated volunteers, whose tireless work makes our activities possible.
Having a shared home like this not only strengthens our own unit but brings us closer to other youth organisations in the area, helping to build a stronger, more connected community. We’re proud to be involved and look forward to welcoming visitors and showcasing the impact this centre will have for years to come.”
A new era for Immingham’s youth
Katie Watson, Flight Sergeant RAFAC and Squadron Commander, 866 (Immingham) Squadron says, “This new centre marks the beginning of a new chapter, not just for the cadet forces, but for the town. It’s a place where young people from all backgrounds can come together, challenge themselves, and find pride in who they are becoming. It’s a safe space, a training ground, and a second home. I see it as our way of giving back, to the community that has always supported us, and to the young people who will one day lead it.”
Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force Detachment Commander at Immingham, Sergeant Instructor Lynnette Newman, adds, “The new joint cadet centre will enable our detachment to grow in numbers and will provide the cadets with a clean, safe space to learn and develop throughout their cadet career. It will allow the volunteer’s and cadets an opportunity to work with other cadet forces and give them a better understanding of each other. The new join centre will also allow easy access for the local community to contact all three cadet services at the same time.”
