RFCA YH held its third Military and Business Expo on 12th March, this time in Sheffield and in partnership with Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.
The event brought local businesses together to raise awareness about the Armed Forces Covenant and the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme which support the armed forces community linking military and civilian employment. The event aims to help employers understand the transferable skills gained during military service and the value of employing people with that experience.
Guest speakers
Guest speakers included His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Professor Dame Hilary Chapman DBE, Air Commodore Adam Sansom, Air Officer North of England and Paul Taylor, armed forces lead at Sheffield City Council.
Guests also heard from supportive employers such as Dale Law and Jellybean Consultancy.
Forces-friendly employers
RFCA YH regional employer engagement director, Pauline King, said:
“We were delighted to welcome over 100 attendees and 15 exhibitors from the local area to our Sheffield Military Business Expo. The event focused on employers who welcome ex and current military personnel to their workforce placing value on the skills set they bring to the workplace.
“These employers serve as ‘forces-friendly ambassadors’ who support the armed forces and endorse the exceptional worth of individuals who are trained to lead, to work as a team, to demonstrate resilience and to use effective communication – all competences that make for an excellent employee.
“Riding on the success of our expos in Bradford, Doncaster and Sheffield, we look forward to our next expo event in Hull in early June.
