The RFCA has made it easier and cheaper for cadets to get their favourite snacks when they go to weekend camp at Strensall in York.
Its permanent staff at Yorkshire (North and West) Army Cadet Force headquarters have installed two vending machines selling chocolate bars, sweets and cans of pop.
Cheaper snacks
The new machines not only enable cadets to buy snacks more cheaply, all profits will go towards funding new facilities for cadets attending events at the base.
“There’s been a big crowd of cadets congregating around the machine since it was installed a few weeks ago,” said RFCA cadet administration officer Graeme Elstob, pictured.
Favourite treats
“They can get their favourite treats without leaving the headquarters and at a much reduced price to what they would get it elsewhere. It’s still early days and we will get feedback from cadets about what they want us to stock. The main purpose of the machines is to make things nicer for the cadets. But the plan is that the machine may eventually pay for itself and even generate a profit we can invest in new facilities.”
The machines were bought with funds from the RFCA as well as a major contribution from the Yorkshire Cadet Trust charity.
