Whether it’s skiing in the Alps or rifle shooting on military ranges, the Yorkshire universities’ military units offer students a unique opportunity to make friends, learn new skills and go to places they would never otherwise get to experience.
Small wonder that students from across the region rate them as one of the best university societies to join.
Great reasons to join
- To get to know new people
- Adventurous training such skiing, mountain-biking and much more
- To travel the world
- To learn about the military, and
- To get PAID for your time while you’re training and learning.
What our officer cadets say
The Officer Training Regiment is without doubt the best university society you can join. There's no other club where you can learn new skills, travel the world, have outdoor adventures and get paid to do it. I've had opportunities that I'd never have had if it weren't for the regiment – like ski training which has been the highlight of my time with the regiment."
Officer cadet Matt Dougherty, Leeds University.
You get to know people you might never otherwise meet and make friends for life. It's also a great chance for me to find out what it would be like for me to join the Army after graduating."
Jessica Jones, York University
I've been on ski trips to the Alps, climbing in Corsica and paragliding in Bavaria. It's widened my experience so much."
Tegan Gowing, bio-engineering student, University of Sheffield.
I've learned about the military, got a bursary for my studies and secured a place at Sandhurst when I graduate. And that's all from joining the Yorkshire Universities Officer Training Regiment.
Billy Shield, history student, University of Leeds.
