Twin Sisters Jessica Moynihan-Case and Lydia Moynihan Make History as Consecutive Lord-Lieutenant Cadets in the East Riding of Yorkshire

In a remarkable display of dedication and sibling synergy, twin sisters Jessica Moynihan-Case and Lydia Moynihan have been appointed as Lord-Lieutenant Cadets for the East Riding of Yorkshire in successive years, highlighting their exceptional leadership within the cadet forces and their commitment to community service. Lydia Moynihan, a Leading Cadet with Hull Sea Cadets, was honoured as the 2024 Lord-Lieutenant Cadet during a prestigious awards ceremony presided over by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mr. James Dick OBE. Recognised for her outstanding bearing, interpersonal skills, and contributions to cadet activities, Lydia supported the Lord-Lieutenant in ceremonial duties throughout the year.
Building legacy
Building on this legacy, Jess Moynihan has now been named the 2025 Lord-Lieutenant Cadet, continuing the family’s proud tradition of service. As a dedicated member of the Cadet Forces, Jess exemplifies the highest standards of discipline and engagement, earning her place among the select group of cadets who assist the Lord-Lieutenant in representing His Majesty at key events across the East Riding of Yorkshire. The Moynihan sisters’ consecutive appointments mark a rare and inspiring milestone, echoing previous instances of familial excellence in cadet honours while celebrating the unique bond of twins united by purpose.

Unique teamwork
Cadet Sergeant Jess Moynihan-Case says, “Having a twin sister in the Sea Cadets while I’m in the Royal Marines Cadets is a mix of rivalry and teamwork that makes the experience unique. There’s definitely a competitive edge between us, whether it’s comparing who’s learned new skills faster, who looks sharper on parade, or who can handle more challenges. At the same time, that rivalry pushes us both to aim higher and be better.
“Helping us achieve where we are today as a Cadet Sergeant and a Leading Cadet. But behind all of that, there’s also a strong sense of support. We understand each other’s struggles, encourage one another before big events, and share tips that make us both stronger. Even though we’re on slightly different paths, being twins in cadets means we’ve always got someone to compete with, but more importantly, someone to rely on.”
Leading Cadet Lydia Moynihan says, “Having a twin sister in the Royal Marines Cadets while I’m in the Sea Cadets makes the experience both fun and rewarding. We have plenty of light-hearted arguments over which side is better, Jess will claim the marine cadets are tougher, while I’ll argue the Sea Cadets have the broader skills, but it’s all in good spirit. In reality, her perspective as a Marine gives me valuable insight that I can share
with my fellow cadets, helping them understand more about their discipline, fieldcraft, and other various skills.
“At the same time, I support her with the seamanship and ranges of sea cadet knowledge that she doesn’t focus on as much. We balance each other out, pushing one another to improve whilst always being there with encouragement. Having that mix of rivalry and teamwork makes us both stronger cadets and closer as twins.”
Their successive roles as Cadets reflect the strength of our cadet programs and the bright future ahead for East Riding.
